Description One of human's biggest footprints is the land (and water) used to transport themselves and goods around the world. Estimates in the US alone measured that all the land converted to roads could easily turn Ohio into a single gigantic parking lot. That's a lot of pavement and concrete. Of course we do not want to stop commerce or travel in its tracks. We do, however, need to address whether or not a road or highway needs to be built from scratch. Alternatives, particularly public transit, are far more effective at moving people around and cut down on pollution. One-third of emissions in the US come from vehicles. The sooner cities begin to get a public transportation network started, the sooner they will see the response. Seeing the vitality of public transit in northeastern US and Europe, makes experiencing cities without such niceties very frustrating. Helpful Websites
