- Description
-
- Our travel footprint on the planet is
possibly our biggest effect as individuals. Buying the most
efficient vehicle is a good step. Using public
transportation, and supporting transportation bills that promote
public transportation are really good steps. Modeling the US
rail infrastructure would be a huge gain for all citizens.
Using hotels, and tourism companies that follow sustainable
practices goes a long way. Ecotourism is a term that can be
stretched in its meaning, so pay attention when reading about a
travel company or hotel and its claims.
-
- Taking one or two long trips (by plane)
each year can double our 'carbon footprint'. Thankfully,
there are some programs, where you can donate a small fee, and
plants are planted to offset the carbon dioxide created by your
air carrier.
The travel industry supports a huge
lobby group. Groups such as triple-A and umbrella automaker
lobbying fronts do everything in their power to maintain the status
quo. Did you know that the average car still has the same fuel
economy as the Model-T? Each of us can make decision that collectively
can make a difference.
